Singular team names

    That is a nice link, but did anyone notice how long ago it was written? The ACC without Miami and BC. What a beautiful world.

    Any graduates of "North Arizona" on the board?

    Unless you work for the AP, whose stylebook states that it's "are."

    but I guess we've covered that ground on this thread already.

    My 2 cents would be a vote for are. Kinda nice to hear that the style book backs me up on it.

    Rule 1 -- Ask whoever runs your sports desk what the paper's style is.
    Rule 2 -- Don't fucking argue when you get the answer.

    I blame the late, unlamented World Football League (Southern California Sun, Portland Storm, Chicago Fire, etc.) for starting all this crap.

    Or the Redmen of St. Sohn or the Notre Dame Fighting Irish or the Orangemen of St. John. The White Sox and the Red Sox may have a hand in it as well.
