Guess you're not a fan of the Quiet Riot version :)

"Back in the USA" - Chuck Berry and Southside Johnny (their live version kicks all kinds of ass)
"Rockin' In the Free World" - Neil Young and Pearl Jam
"David Watts" - The Kinks and The Jam
"Quarter to Three" - Gary US Bonds and Springsteen (love the live version from No Nukes or Hammersmith Odeon)

"I Fought The Law" - Bobby Fuller Four and The Clash. Maybe the best Buddy Holly-style song Buddy never wrote (written by ex-Cricket Sonny Curtis) became one of the greatest covers ever.

"Pressure Drop" - Toots and the Maytals (memorably featured in The Harder They Come) and The Clash
"When Will I Be Loved" - Everly Brothers, some great covers by Linda Ronsatdt and most recently John Fogerty (w/Springsteen)
"Honky Tonk Women" - Stones and Jerry Lee Lewis (w/Kid Rock)

There's a great cover of Dylan's 'Wallflower' by Buddy and Julie Miller, but I'm not sure that counts. Dylan wrote and recorded it but never released it until the 'Basement Tapes.'

Cowboy Junkies do a great cover of Neil Young's 'Powderfinger' on the 'Caution Horses' album.

Rowland Salley's 'Killing the Blues' was long defined by John Prine's cover, but the version on Allison Krause's 'Raising Sand' with Robert Plant is also tremendous.

Cowboy Junkies also do a great cover of "Sweet Jane".

I usually don't like recycled classics. I nearly gagged when I heard Annie Lennox sing Whiter Shade of Pale, but I do have to agree with the Turn the Page by Seger and Metallica reference above.

Great idea for a thread. A few off the top of my head:

"Black Magic Woman" -- Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era) and Santana

"Happiness is a Warm Gun" -- The Beatles and The Breeders (on their first album)

"Police and Thieves" -- Junior Murvin (1976) and The Clash (1977)

    "Nothing Compares 2 U" -- Prince and Sinead O'Connor

"No Matter What" -- Badfinger and Def Leppard (from their "Yeah!" album)

We listen to Pandora a lot, and I've heard a bunch of cover versions of Dylan's Make You Feel My Love.

    I don't think I've disliked a single one.
