I feel like posting a YouTube link for Metallica's "Am I Evil," but I get the sense Starman might object.

He'll just grab your sledgehammer and smashy-smashy the thread.

I love this thread; I was just having a little fun with Starman's complaint, which has some merit. I think people are just starting to post stuff they like, as opposed to "beautiful" stuff. All of the 417 songs I've mentioned, with the exception of Am I Evil, I do consider beautiful on any number of levels. Now if you start a thread of just favorite songs, then I'll post a couple thousand times.

I haven't listened to the whole song in years because I got sick of it when it was released, but the guitar solo in "November Rain" belongs here.

It's practically impossible to define "simply beautiful."

Well, this is pretty beautiful, in its own way:

Beautiful is not the word I would use to best describe anything Jimmy Buffett has ever done. But to each his own.

I might have missed them, but here's three by Joshua Radin:

"Paperweight" with him and Schuyler Fisk:

    "Winter":

    "Sky" featuring Ingrid Michaelson:

Two by Josh Ritter, I saw him mentioned but I don't know if these were:

"Kathleen" (This one holds special meaning because it reminds me of my best friend from college who's across the country now):

    "Girl in the War":

And a few from Greg Laswell:

    "Off I Go"

    "Comes and Goes":

    Great call on "Kathleen." dre.

I mentioned "The Temptation of Adam", but here's another Ritter gem:

    Some more:

"Crown of Love" - Arcade Fire (can't believe I forgot this song)

    "Emotion Sickness" - Silverchair

    "3 Libras" - A Perfect Circle

    "Brighter Than Sunshine" - Aqualung

    "Maybe Sparrow" - Neko Case

"The Meeting Place" - Last Shadow Puppets

"Wake Me When It's Over" - Longwave

    "Promise" - Butch Walker

These three songs are the most beautiful of the Beatles' very early original ballads.....all were thrown away on B sides, but they stand up with everything else the band ever recorded.

(from 1962 - the flip of debut single Love Me Do)

(from 1962 - the flip of second single Please Please Me)

(from 1963 - in England, this was the flip of fifth single I Want To Hold Your Hand)

Beatle ballads are priceless. Another classic Fab Four tune for this category would be "Girl".

    Other oldies:

"San Franciscan Night" Eric Burdon and the Animals
'I Can Hear Music" Beach Boys
    "California Dreamin'" Mamas and Papas
"Do I Have to Come Right Out and Say It" Buffalo Springfield
"Just a Song Before I Go" CSN

Interesting choices: I agree on Fleetwood Mac's "Songbird" and Elton John's "Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters." and I'll throw in:

"One" by U2 (I haven't seen it mentioned yet)
    "Rain Song" by Led Zeppelin
"Strawberry Letter 23", either the Shuggie Otis or Brothers Johnson version
    "#9 Dream" by John Lennon
