Simple Pleasures

Finding people who are sympathetic to my deep, sometimes convoluted political agenda.

 

-- A purring cat curled up against your neck
-- A new pair of heels
-- Flirting with the boy at the coffee shop
-- Warm laundry
-- Newly Zambonied ice
-- Alanis Morrisette's "Uninvited"

 

A thank you note from anyone you write about.
The first time you go someplace you haven't been.
The brush that they use on your neck after a haircut.
The smell of bread baking.
Seeing those friends you only get to hang out with once a year.
Floating in the pool.
Realizing that its not where you are, but who you are with.

I was also thinking of a crisply struck 8-iron from 155 yards when it is so still outside, you can hear the sound of the divot hitting the ground in front of you.

 

Tossing a no hitter in video game baseball (Hi, shottie!).

 

Knowing that both members of the Prancing Billy Sweepstakes Series owe you on friendly wagers.

 

Yeah, I love it when Ms. Slappy calls me with that, too.

But seriously:
-- When our kids call home to the empty nest, just to shoot the breeze
-- When I get a good doctor's report
-- Getting up early, reading the paper and drinking coffee
-- Mowing the lawn (don't know why I like that, but I do)

 

Addition:

* Looking at the clock and knowing I only have an hour left at work.
* Pulling into the driveway of my home. Home really is where the heart is.
* Being called Daddy. I don't think I'll ever get tired of that.

 

Man, we're slow if it took this long for someone to leap on that hanging curveball.

 

Plainly you don't work on a copy desk.
