Phil Simms told Mike & Mike this morning that he knew about Peyton Manning's second surgery but decided not to say anything publicly "because breaking news isn't my thing."

    Sheesh.

Nantz probably knew too, but removing his nose from the rectum of the poeple he covers ain't his thing, either

ESPN knew through an anonymous source but they figured they would get it wrong anyway so they didn't break the story.

Given what his own son went through, I'm hardly surprised Simms kept his mouth shut.

I don't think he did anything wrong.

I am fully in support of Phil's behavior here.
No problem with any of it.
There's no story here, unless you are one of those media types who likes to chastise other media types for "keeping secrets"
This is really a non-issue item.

Simms is the George W. Bush of color commentary.

Have nothing against him as a commentator.

Have serious problems with his anger-management issues.
I've seen him treat some service people EXCEEDINGLY badly.

He's an ex-jock, not a journalist, so it's not surprising that he wouldn't report that information. Might have been nice if he'd mentioned it to someone at CBS who actually has some news judgment, though.

If Phil Simms had broken something that was "newsworthy" and been wrong, people here would have crucified him for trying to be a journalist, a la Kirk Herbstreit's incorrect "breaking news" story last year.

He's a color commentator, not a journalist. If he wants to go public with what he knows, that's his prerogative.

He still sucks at commentating though.

Peyton's had bursa sack issues ever since midway through his senior year at UT.

He had a nutsack issue, too.
