One well known, one extremely talented. Both childish assholes.

    That about sums it up.

I realize it's great sport around here to fawn over Pierce and rip everything Simmons ever does... but Pierce couldn't come across as a bigger asshole here.

That probably sums it up pretty well.

I wonder if Pierce still reads this board regularly like he used to.

Pierce never sent emails to Bill critical of his work. He sent emails offering to mentor Bill and help him with his career when Bill was a kid. And Bill said screw off. And Bill is proud of telling on of the best writers of this generation fuck off?
Bill is rich and successful and famous beyond his wildest dreams. And still bitter he can't write like the heroes of his youth.
Simmons cut his teeth ripping Boston media. Just enjoy your success, brah.

In his blog post, Pierce writes that he never tried to mentor Simmons. Just that they traded e-mails every so often.

I don't think that's necessarily the case as much as it used to be.

In Pierce's blog he said he sent an email to Pierce criticizing him for something he wrote about LeBron.

Without ever having read Simmons' book, how does one edit out footnotes? Doesn't that constitute plagarism? IE not using a footnote to cite a source? Or is this a different sort of footnote?

He told Simmons a crack he made about LeBron and his mom was a bit harsh. If that tepid level of criticism set Billy off, he's more of a thin-skinned douche than I thought.
