If they give it to Jeter, I will cancel my subscription (Oh wait....I already did).

I don't think so, just because Johnson got the full Joe Poz treatment last week in SI. What more could a Sportsman of the Year story say? I think that is a factor in the mag's decision.

who th eff is jimmie johnson?! eff that nascar hillbilly crap. he wins, and i'll cancel MY subscription, which remains alive and well out of habit, i reckon.

but seriously, i never watch a race or read a story about nascar. find it hard to believe the same can be said for REAL athletes in REAL sports.

there, that should get us rolling some from the mouth of this big-city snob.

    Sigh. Not gonna go there.

But Johnson would have zero cover appeal, so don't sweat it. If Dale Jr. ever wins a title (bwahahaha), that would be different. Ditto Danica winning the Indy 500.

    This is true.

That said, it's sad to think that winning four consecutive titles, something no one has ever done in the history of the sport, wouldn't be enough to rate Sportsman of the Year, while Dale Jr. winning one title may well be.

Those essays are the "Honorable mentions" - guess we can cross Johnson off.
