I considered Chipper. I just don't think he'll hit .400, though. Heck, he's at exactly .400 right now.

How about this, though -- Chipper will probably end up with a higher average than his mark of .337 last year. That will mark five straight years of an increased batting average, from age 32 to age 36. Wonder if there's any comparable streaks in baseball history. Jayson Stark??

Phelps in a cakewalk with 8 golds. Unless Chipper hits .400 or Hamilton gets the Triple Crown.

Vince McMahon ... if the SI folks get a hold of any of his millions.

It's always good to pick the Sportman of the Year before the year is half over.
Nobody really cares what happens after June anyway.

Could Josh Hamilton be named Sportsman of the Year?

Yeah Hamilton's definitely got a chance.

Unless Kenny Perry at 47 breaks Byron Nelson's record for consecutive PGA victories.

Actually, if Nadal wins the Open he'd be a strong contender too. Although if Federer didn't get it after a few of his sublime years, I'm guessing Nadal won't either.

(If Hamilton keeps it up, I give him a slight edge. SI could get monster sales from Christians, and other religious groups.)

I think Michael Phelps streaks into consideration with eight Olympic gold medals.

I think the competition is over, frankly.
