I would second Bill Cowher, but he's followed up the Super Bowl with a clunker of a season so far.

Federer. Federer. Federer. The only right choice is Federer. A 92-5 record, three major titles and a finalist in the other major -- one match away from the Grand Slam. Tiger wishes he dominated golf the way Federer dominates tennis.

That said, I'd be surprised if SI picked him. He's Swiss. He plays tennis. Sadly, that means he won't sell a lot of magazines.

Dang it, I didn't see Federer on there. Oh well, Tiger is still a good choice.

I don't watch that much tennis, but R. Federer is a beast. So far, no one has been able to take him down. Nadal,Blake, etc. They've all failed
But then again, the same goes with Tiger.

Derek Jeter. He really doesn't get enough credit for anything.

Maybe neither would be the top guy, but Johan Santana and Derek Jeter would be better picks than at least half that list.

I don't suppose the two Chronicle writers would qualify, would they?

What about the New Orleans Saints? More in regards to the actual players and not the team management which pretty much tried to leave town.

They've rebounded from a horrible year in everyway possible to become a playoff contender and give 'Nola a source of pride.

Ooh, another thought, what about the Clemson football player who's taking in his little brother? On second thought (or third, or whatever), that would mean someone would have to give the NCAA credit for something. Can't have that.

Lance Armstrong, for always picking up his dry cleaning on the right day.
