SI critique -- Why SI still matters

    SI is still the gold standard. Don't like the new Scorecard/Players thing either, but the writing and focus is always sharp.

    Too bad William Nack isn't still writing for them. He's up there with Gary Smith -- above Smith, in my book.

    Anyone who ever read Nack's classic story on the last day of Secretariat knows what I'm talking about.

    You wouldn't get that in ESPN or Sporting News, or in most major newspapers these days.
