Should W-L for pitchers just be phased out entirely?

They seriously could have improved that stat instead of eliminated it. As it was, it was the RBI that put a team ahead for good. So you could drive in a run in the first inning of a 10-9 game and get a game-winning RBI. They should have just reserved the stat for runs drivin in from the seventh inning on.

When I did this a week or so ago, Felix was the best pitcher in the AL with 11 dominant starts and seven other quality starts. Kuroda was second with eight dominant starts and nine other quality starts. Scherzer goes 5/13.

The job of a starting pitcher is to give his team the best chance to win a game, and going seven or more with one or fewer runs allowed give your team a great chance to win. A quality start gives them a good chance to win.

So the AL Cy, as of a week ago, should clould look like this...

    Felix
    Kuroda
    Scherzer

    NL is...
    Kershaw
    Harvey
    Corbin

His customary frothing about angels on the head of a pin is not worth my full intellectual skills. Ridicule will suffice.

    This is what I think.

People get that piling up wins can be tough, and getting to 20 in a single season requires skill, and a degree of luck. When combined with other stats, like ERA, we know whether a pitcher "deserved" a better record, or whether he benefited greatly from his offense.

But, hey, at the end of the day, what matters is that a warrior like CC was able to gut out a big win last night. Sure, he only went 5.1, and gave up 6 runs -- it was not a Devil of a start -- but he got the all important win!

Have you published your formula for QB rating?

    I like it.

The job of a starting pitcher is to give his team the best chance to win. If you said Felix gives you a dominant start 50% of the time he takes the mound and Scherzer is 25%, it's pretty easy to see the division between the pitchers.

True fact: In all six of his losses this season, Hernandez has allowed at least four runs. Overall he has done that eight times to Scherzer's five.

Are we talking earned runs or run? If it's earned runs, then knock Felix's number down to six.

Since we are nit picking stats...

Scherzer has given up at least one run in 23 or 25 starts - runs or earned runs.
Felix has given up a run in 19 of 26 starts - runs or runs.

That's seven times Felix has given up the ball with a goose egg on the board. Scherzer has done it twice.

Lighten up, Francis. It's just a freaking stat. Who gives a crap what Joe Six Pack Fan realizes? The W-L stat is just another thing that gets fans talking, starts debates, helps interest in the game, etc. Why does MLB need to "educate" the fans? The ones who are that into it already know what W-L means and doesn't mean. The rest? Let's give them something to talk about.
