Should Pete Rose be reinstated?

I'm just wondering how members from SJ feel in general about reinstating Pete Rose to the eligible list for the Hall of Fame.

Should Pete be forgiven for betting on baseball games?

Anyone who has given a thorough read of The Dowd report would have to say no.

I do not see how time can change his indiscretions.

I see both sides of this one...

On the one hand, he bet on baseball and lied about it for 15 years or so. That should keep him out.

On the other hand, I don't think I've ever seen a player play the game harder. Growing up, he was the guy who parents and coaches pointed to and said, "Play the game like he does..."

    So, I don't know...

    No.

    Change the rules.
Banned from Baseball for Gambling should be on his Hall of Fame Plaque.

He called into question the legitimacy of every game he was involved with once he started betting. Screw that. Hell no.

There is no going back for Rose. He made a shining example of himself and that's where he should remain. What a disgrace for a manager to decide whether to bet or not to bet on his own team. All this was made blantantly clear when Kenesaw Mountain Landis took office.

But dogged teams of investigative journalists have scoured each and every game and can find no evidence that Rose rendered any outcome illegitimate. [/nolinkavailable]
