Bryant was fined $100,000 for mouthing "faggot" at a ref. Noah fined $50,000 for calling a fan a ???? (story I found uses the generic 'gay slur' description)

Since we're talking about the NBA, are there examples we've missed when a player/coach/member of the front office used a slur to denigrate another group and the fines/penalties were more substantive, thereby supporting your assertion that gay slurs are viewed as a lesser form of slur?

Noah and Kobe would both be suspended now, don't you think?

If you were the commish? Absolutely.

    A more level-headed individual? No.

For Game 7 of the Conference Finals? Absolutely not.

Why do you think otherwise? Has the league stated anything in the intervening time to suggest that they've changed policies or that they believe they mishandled the Kobe and Noah situations? I've seen nothing to suggest they'd handle the Kobe thing any differently today than they did two years ago.

The views on gay rights an gay empathy has evolved at a pretty breakneck pace since then.

Was Ozzie Guillen suspended for using "faggot," or just fined?

Your question is relevant save for one small detail: you're comparing different sports with different commissioners.

To answer your question regarding the manager: He was fined and forced to attend sensitivity training (when manager of White Sox).

He was later suspended, by the Marlins, for comments regarding Castro.

WTF? The Kobe and Noah thing's happened in 2011, not some bygone era in civil rights history. You're being ridiculous, Dick, there's no evidence suggesting that they'd handle either situation any differently today.

I understand that. I'm curious about how that league handled it.

How is "homo" different than "hebe," "wetback," "coon," or "chink"?

I edited my response. He was fined and sent to sensitivity training.
