Since we're talking about the NBA, are there examples we've missed when a player/coach/member of the front office used a slur to denigrate another group and the fines/penalties were more substantive, thereby supporting your assertion that gay slurs are viewed as a lesser form of slur?

Why do you think otherwise? Has the league stated anything in the intervening time to suggest that they've changed policies or that they believe they mishandled the Kobe and Noah situations? To answer your question regarding the manager: He was fined and forced to attend sensitivity training (when manager of White Sox).

He was later suspended, by the Marlins, for comments regarding Castro.
