Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes, and see if you don't think wearing short is wrong.

Nice shorts, collared shirt, decent footware = fine.

I don't buy the comfort argument, I think it's a tradeoff. You might sweat a tiny bit less, but at the expense of more exposure to sunburn and bug bites and, in some cases (such as walking around a large city), human filth. But it's a no-brainer that the long pants/shirts would have to be lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting and breathable. Like, not jeans. Center for Disease Control says in very hot weather, wear as little as possible at home but you need protection from the sun outdoors.

From an appearance standpoint, I don't think it looks professional. But I guess that would depend on local standards. If the editor of the paper doesn't wear shorts when dealing with the public, I wouldn't either. I haven't worn sandals since I was about 9. On men, they look either gross (dirty feet and rodent-like nails) or effeminate. (Hey! How 'bout some Capris and a tube top with those, fella?)

    Hey, you asked.

Frank is my expert on these matters. I can live with what he said.

I can't pull off the tube top look like I could in my 20s, so I'll pass and stick with my birks.

Suisse Sport shorts, with a polo. They're long, with plenty of deep pockets for the wallet, cell phone, reporter's notebook, etc. Plus they are very comfortable.

I am so glad that Microville might be one of the most casual places on earth, and that upper management has the sense to realize that and not require a dress code when half the town is full of engineering geeks who go to work in sandals/birkies when the sun finally comes out.

In almost all cases, it is perfectly acceptable to wear shorts and a polo shirt to cover an outdoor high school/youth/summertime sporting event. A hat to keep the sun off your face is also fine, just make sure it isn't a homer team hat or something unprofessional.

Birkenstocks are plenty good. Structured sandals are as well. I'm not a fan of cheap looking flip-flops, but that's just me.

No. I'm saying Jesus plays quarterback for Florida.
