I have to cover a baseball game today. It's 83 degrees with 75 percent humidity right now. Unless it rains in the next few hours, that's probably not going to change much.
    Yes, shorts are acceptable.

  2. God, no. Khaki shorts from The Gap. And I'm 30-ish and a runner.

I guess people hear "sports writer" and "shorts" in the same sentence and I can understand the reaction :)

Yes. And if it's wrong, I don't care.

Yes. Shorts are appropriate. Just wear an oxford shirt with a tie.

No, no tie. You can't pop your collar then.

hey, that's cool. like I said, wasn't snarking. but, yeah, shorts are fine. just make sure you have your striped tube socks pulled up.

(and even college events are fine with shorts, often ... baseball, track, etc.)

Especially when it's hot, there really shouldn't be a problem wearing shorts to a prep game. I see credentialed writers in shorts at pro and college games regularly.

I was serious about the man toes. Keep them covered! ;)

Decent shorts, shirt with collar, hat for the sun is fine but not BACKWARD.
    Dress appropriate for weather/event.
Jorts will get you in all sorts of trouble, just for violating good fashion sense.

Oh, now you done it. Frank Ridgeway, please pick up the white courtesy phone...

    Kidding!

Waylon, wear shorts and a polo. Cover your toes, though, especially if you are a runner. I have two black toenails from all my years of same. No one needs to see that.

It was 90 degrees here yesterday, so yeah, I'm wearing shorts if I'm covering a baseball game. I generally wear a golf polo with it.
