    Per Bob Raissman's column:

    She's an ice-breaker

With Devils radio voice Matt Loughlin tending to personal matters Wednesday night, analyst Sherry (Darling) Ross moved to the play-by-play side working Senators-Devs.

This marked the first time an American woman called play-by-play of a National Hockey League game. According to NHL.com, a female broadcast team handled the French language broadcast of the 2008 Lightning-Devils tilt.

Checked out a tape of Ross' work. She got in the p-b-p groove quickly.

Sorry I missed it. The girl knows her hockey.

She definitely knows her hockey. I didn't catch her doing the play-by-play, but her color commentary during games is fantastic.

Please don't mock me if this is a well-know fact in the east, but is she Ted Darling's daughter? He was great with the original Sabres.
