We're a little off topic here, aren't we? Coaching ability and commentating ability are not the same thing. Chuck Noll won four Super Bowls. Anybody think he'd be a good studio guy or color man? How about Don Shula? He's still around. Actually, I think Belichick would be a pretty good commentator, but as he once said, he'd "never go over to the dark side."

To me, even more damning than the fact that he's not effective is that he seems to view it as a badge of honor not to care about that side of the ball. Sporano is his ideal OC - someone who treats offense like defense.

    Agreed.
He also aligned himself with the spawn of Marty Schottenheimer, whose knowledge of offense is in the neighborhood of Sparano and Ryan.

Sharpe was done once Jay Pharoh did his sidesplitting imitation
on SNL. Just no way to recover.

Since all of the pre-game shows do "picks" - why not spice it up each year, and whoever comes in last at the end of the season gets relegated to CBSSports Network, FS1 or NFL Live.

I have never seen worse commentators than Joe Montana and George Seifert, who have a combined nine Super Bowl rings.

John McKay would have probably been the best and he might have been the worst.

    Ditka's a TV clown, a caricature, a mockery of a travesty of a sham. He's a star.

Ditka was on Mike & Mike on some Monday during a season and they asked him about a coach's questionable in-game decision. Ditka started his answer with "I'm not going to criticize any coach in the National Football League."

No shit. The idea that Ryan would not be hired because he doesn't have a ring is absurd. He has personality and likes to talk about the game.

    As you say:
Entertaining is the whole point, and a smart producer wouldn't ask Rex Ryan about developing a QB or winning a Super Bowl. That's why there are several guys in the studio with different experiences.
