    1. Sounds like a great job - I would be surprised if it pays enough to live in SF. "the ability to increase income" sounds sketchy. You can scalp your free Giants tickets?

This job was once held by Kerry Crowley, who is now the Giants beat writer for the Bay Area News Group.

That said, I wonder how much original reporting one will get to do in this job, beyond gamers and keeping the web site updated. What I've seen mostly from the station is warmed-over versions of what's already been reported by BANG, the Chronicle, etc.

If someone is leaving this job for BANG...nothing against anyone who gets it - just figure the pay isn't great given the exodus to The Athletic.

Given their history, radio conglomerates are sketchier than print conglomerates. Even if it's Cumulus/Westwood One and you're reporting from the Bay Area, at the end of the day you're getting radio station pay. I left radio and the Bay Area in 1989 because I couldn't live on radio station pay.

That said, if you can find a way to help monetize your efforts -- the "ability to increase income" part of the equation -- I'm certain the additional commission won't hurt. Perfect job for someone who can write and find a way to make money/land sponsorship for the site.

EDIT: If you're thinking about applying, give specifics on how your skills as a writer and social media expert can drive traffic AND sales. Radio people in a major market like San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose obsess over Arbitron (now Nielsen Audio) numbers, meaning you're only as good as the last book shows you to be.
