OK. I think team, group, family are singulars, are they not?

If so, a family can't bang THEIR HEADS against the wall, right? It must be its head or its collective head, no? Same goes team and group right?

Singular. One family, one team, one group.

Yes - family, team, group are all singular.
Family MEMBERS can bang THEIR heads. But a family must bang ITS head. Same with team and group.

    Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
    You got someone to blame
    You say
    One love
    One life
    When it's one need
    In the night
    One love
    We get to share it
    Leaves you baby if you
    Don't care for it

    Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
    Well it's

    Too late
    Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
    We get to
    carry each other
    carry each other
    One

Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
To the lepers in your head

    Did I ask too much?
    More than a lot.
    You gave me nothing,
    Now it's all I got
    We're one
    But we're not the same
    Well we
    Hurt each other
    Then we do it again
    You say
    Love is a temple
    Love a higher law
    Love is a temple
    Love the higher law
    You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on
    To what you got
When all you've got is hurt

    One love
    One blood
    One life
You got to do what you should
    One life
    With each other
    Sisters
    Brothers
    One life
    But we're not the same
    We get to
    Carry each other
    Carry each other

    One...
    One...

    extended version

Can You hear us coming Lord
    Can You hear us call
    Feel us knocking
    We're knocking at Your door

I would say, even though it sounds a little odd, that a family must bang its HEADS.

Family may be singular, but assuming everyone in the family has a head, then heads are being banged.

    Look at it this way.

Let's say your two-car family is moving cross-country.

The correct question would be, "Is the Smith family going to drive its cars (plural) all the way to Seattle?"

If cars is plural --- and it obviously should be --- then heads should be plural (unless you specify that it's the collective head that is being banged).

This might help too, though I suggest printing it first.

A family is not plural, but one collective group.
(to quote Ace)"There four", a family is, but family members are

And in Britain, plural verbs for teams are standard..."Arsenal are," "Portugal were," "FC Bottomsnogsbury have," etc.

And as the late Sid Abel used to say on Red Wings' broadcasts...

"Montreal are skating well tonight, Bruce..."
