The last line of the AP story belongs in the moronic hall of fame... something to the effect of: "I never was any good at math," Weekley said, though to be fair, that was a response to a FedExCup points question and not Garcia's scorecard.

    1. What the fuck is this guy thinking when writing that sentence?
    2. What the fuck is the guy at the switch doing leaving that bullshit in a story?

Let me first say that, since those are the rules, Sergio goes, end of story. But since official leaderboards are being kept, whether on TV or on the big board on the 18th green or in the clubhouse or wherever, isn't it a little outdated to make the players keep each other's scorecard for any other reason other than tradition? Isn't this a little silly? Everybody knew what Sergio shot today. A mistake was made on a piece of paper.

But spnited, golf is a gentleman's game and it mustn't be sullied with technology like that. ::)

The walking scorer can be called upon for confirmation of scores if, in this case, Garcia wasn't sure what he'd scored on 18. Sounds as of he didn't keep track of his own score (on the top of the scorecard he was keeping for Weekley).

Yes. And I'm sorry about the tradition of the game, but there is no good reason for the players to keep each other's score.

It has always been thus. These guys have been doing it since junior golf. THerefore, Sergio should have known to check his card. He's a bigger dumb ass than Boo.

  8. Someone needs to make sure that Sergio stays out of dry cleaning establishments for the next couple of days.

No doubt that Sergio made the mistake, although he'll surely blame it on something else. But really is it necessary to stick with this arcane scoring system?

There is a reason players keep each other's score, a good one. There's no other way to keep score at a great many tournaments, 95 percent of those played, actually.
Check your agate. All those pro-ams, all those mini-tours nobody ever heard pf. all those Northeastern section, Southwest regional Junior tourneys, all of them depend on players keeping accurate score, and to the game's archaic but noble honor system. The rule is enforced at the top to make sure it stays alive at the bottom. That's worth doing.
    2. Many people do not like Sergio, but hey, this happens. Roberto DiVeicenzo lost the Masters the same way, for goodness sake's. It's a blunder, not a character flaw.

    Good point. Changed my opinion.
