Senior sports writer - Tallahassee

    Don't see the ad on this one, but I'm told the Tallahassee Democrat is advertising for a senior sports writer, Steve Ellis' position.

    His RIP deserves its own thread, so if someone knows where the job ad is please post.

    Democrat's Gannett, I believe.

    The Tallahassee Democrat, the area’s largest daily newspaper and number one local news source, is seeking an outstanding and motivated Senior Sports Writer. The writer is responsible for Florida State University athletics coverage with responsibilities for print and digital news.

    Responsibilities:
    · To work with the sports editor and the sports team primarily to produce comprehensive and accurate coverage of the FSU program, especially the Big 3 sports: football, basketball and baseball.

    Requirements
    Qualifications:
    · At least 10 years experience at the major college or professional sports journalism level with a proven ability to develop enterprise and depth in coverage, as well as understand and be able to produce content for new media platforms.
    · Highly developed interviewing and reporting skills
    · Eye for detail and flair in writing
    · Solid news judgment
    · Strong planning and organizational skills
    · Ability to develop and maintain sources
    · Represent the company in a positive manner in public
    · Must be able to work collaboratively across departments within our information center
    · Be able to meet deadlines
    · Typing, computer skills and knowledge on a broad range of subjects required
    · Some photographic ability, especially with a digital camera, some skill shooting video and recording audio for the Web site would be a plus, but not required
    · Four-year college degree preferred


    Working Hours:
    Flexible including nights and weekends, and travel for sports coverage. This is an exempt job

    Don't want to pour a flood of cold water on this, but there is another post on jjobs for the editor's post at Osceola, the FSU magazine. The post says the current editor is taking the FSU beat's job at the local paper...

    Anyone want to add insight? Two cents??

    So they want someone with 10 years college or pro beat experience ... to take their own photos.
