The Santa Clarita Valley Signal is looking for a talented full-time sports reporter/writer to bolster its prep and college sports coverage.

The SCV is home to six large high schools, a handful of smaller high schools and two colleges, boasting competitive teams across numerous sports.

    Applicants should:

    — be willing to work nights and occasional weekends (the sports department generally works 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., M-F)

    — have a good understanding of the intricacies of sports (unearned runs vs. earned runs in baseball, etc.)

    — have experience writing features and gamers at a professional or college newspaper

    — have experience using Adobe InDesign to lay out news pages

    — have a keen eye for detail and the big picture (copy editing for commas, hyphens and story structure)

    — live in the Los Angeles area

To apply, send a resume and three story clips to mnesbitt@signalscv.com.
