    Ready to hit the streets?

The Journal-Courier in Jacksonville, Illinois, is looking for a community-minded sports and news writer who also can take photos and shoot video as needed.

We are a seven-days-a-week newspaper in the heart of central Illinois. There seldom is a lack of something happening and this position will give the right person a chance to do a little of everything.

The duties are split between news and sports. We cover some of the best small-school teams in the state, along with two Division III colleges and a variety of sporting events and activities in central Illinois.

Jacksonville is a city of 19,000 people just minutes from the state capital and within a few hours' drive of places such as St. Louis and Chicago. The Journal-Courier is the oldest continually published newspaper in Illinois and is part of Civitas Media, which has nearly 100 publications in 12 states.

The idea candidate will be someone who can come up with enterprise news and feature stories that go beyond the scheduled meetings and games and also can take compelling photos and sometimes shoot and edit video to accompany print copy. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, be proficient in Associated Press style and proper grammar and display good interviewing skills. Recent college graduates will be considered. Time management and the ability to work under deadlines is a must. Knowledge of social media and web platforms for sourcing and reader engagement is a plus.

To apply, send a cover letter, resume and a few examples of your best work to Editor/Publisher David C.L. Bauer at editor@myjournalcourier.com. To see more about the newspaper, go to myjournalcourier.com or facebook.com/journalcourier.
