I guess my question is: what point is he actually making?

I know what he thinks he's trying to say with his visits to nations where our country is not popular (especially as he visits places that share his negative opinion of the American President) . . . . but what's the actual point here? Is his fact checking and "freelance journalism" making a positive impact? Or is it just a Hollywood dork trying for some political grandstanding?

    And Yawn's head explodes.

  3. Hugo Chavez has resolutely avoided being the Allende of the 21st Century.
And he's not our kind of authoritarian in that he won't sell us oil.
    Tough spot.

He's selling us oil, alright — he runs Citgo. He's got the Bushies skeered because he's made noises about nationalizing the oil industry in his country.

    Very interesting.

So what point is Sean Penn actually making with his visits?

Is there anybody here who would not see his movies because of this?
He was still great in Fast Times.
I don't give a shit about his politics.

That he's not terribly bright and makes a good pawn? Given the stories about Chavez' attempts to restrict press freedoms in Venezuela, Penn looks like a jackass defending this guy -- just like any American lefty who cozies up to Castro. I don't understand the blind spot some people have for these dictators.

  8. They've learned from 60 years of American foreign policy, I guess.

    What a douchebag.

Bush may be an idiot, but to cozy up next to Chavez is just disgusting.

Here here, Elliotte. Hugo is Castro Light in my eyes.

Penn needs to be read the Logan Act for trying to play hardball with foreign countries. Doesn't he understand that he doesn't have the authority to play envoy? [/Nancy Pelosi]
