SPORTS EDITOR: The Record of Stockton, Calif. (62,000 daily, 71,000 Sunday) is seeking an energetic sports editor who can lead the section as it continues to improve its content and design. This growing city has a waterfront baseball stadium and a downtown arena; the venues host Stockton’s four minor-league sports franchises. Coverage also includes 25 high schools, some Bay Area and Sacramento professional sports and outdoors sports of the Delta and Sierra Nevada. The ability to work with writers to develop meaningful stories and enterprise is a must. The Record is a publication of Ottaway Newspapers Inc. We value diversity in the workplace. Send a resume and work samples to: Donald W. Blount, Managing Editor, The Record, PO Box 900 Stockton, CA 95201; or e-mail to: dblount@recordnet.com. Posted on 09/12/06

First Santa Cruz, then Stockton. There sure are a lot of SE openings at Ottaway papers.

New metro editor was a deputy SE in Sacramento, and sports gets good play here. Town itself is unimpressive, but it's close to several more interesting areas.

I thought about putting in for a sports reporter job years ago because it's close to Sactown, where I've got a high school buddy. Decided to stay close to family, though. Heard nothing but good things about this paper when doing some background info.

daddy - it's below the mason-dixon line in california and close to sactown. i'm guessing it's more than where you now live.

Quick word on the management. Don's a good guy, if a bad golfer. Worked with him in Sac when he was Asst. Biz editor. He'll tell you straight and let you work. And Barb Zumwalt, the new metro editor, is one of the hardest workin' people in show biz.

cost of living is more than most places, but less than Sac by a little. so houses start in the mid-$200,000s instead of the $300,000-plus for a shack. The market there is really slowing down, tho, so prices are adjusting to a more normal pace.
