    The Rangers did give him a chance for a fresh start. The rest of MLB declined to take them up on their offer.

    Didn't Earl Boykins do something like this last off season, turning down a $3 million option only to be picked up by no one until mid-season when he signed for like the league minimum? or am I imagining things?

    Not many marginal big leaguers will shoot of their mouths -- and if they do, nobody gives them the ink -- so Botts is pretty special. Lots of guys like Kenny Lofton and Frank Thomas who don't get that their end is nigh and they probably are no longer everyday guys.
