    Background checks are not likely to prevent shootings like these.

    Gotta get the guns - a whole lot of them - off the streets.

    Yes. I take the NRA at its word that background checks are a slippery slope. I'll bring the water, you bring the hill.

    Oh, I'm in favor of passing them. I just think our gun problem - America's love affair with them - is way, way, beyond a couple of background check laws.

    I don't care how advanced we are technologically.

    This country will always be backward as long as its people carry an 1870s mentality.

    As shocked as I am to be agreeing with Alma, but, it's a complex problem that needs to be approached on several levels that I don't think we're able to attack in this era of simple solutions. Background checks. Weapon and ammo sales controls. Psychologial checks. Strengthening families. And the list goes on.
