If they had simply said they were closing the schools because of events in Connecticut, I don't anyone would have said a word. But when presumably educated people such as school superintendents, school boards and administrators throw in rumors of the Mayan calendar as a factor, it's the height of stupidity. Now you inconvenienced thousands of parents who have to scramble for some kind of child care, or take two days off work, and probably spooked the kids even more.

    Idiots.

Why would schools in Detroit cancel classes because of a shooting in Connecticut, unless they have a serious security issue of their own?

Any school that does this allows the crazies to win.

For the record, it's not Detroit schools. This is mostly Flint-area schools, along with some in the lower thumb region.

Someone gave a threat that they were going to bring a gun to school since the end of the world was coming. That person is now in custody.

Most schools here are only going a half-day on Friday anyway because of finals and the Christmas holiday.

We're getting robo-calls and emails from the school district saying, "All the rumors about a massacre here are unsubstantiated."

    That's reassuring.

You legitimize the crazies and the horse shit when you give it this much play.

So, their thought process was the end of the world would only destroy ... the schools. Oooookay.

  11. You have to love the public meetings where administrators are telling the public how strict their security is. BS, as it isn't terribly difficult to get into a school.
