As we continue to grow, we continue to hire.

Saturday Down South (SEC) and Saturday Tradition (Big Ten) are seeking multiple freelancers for specific team and league coverage. Football is the priority, but we're expanding our basketball, baseball and softball coverage, too.

You will be read and you will have the opportunity to grow your brand. We encourage that.
Last football season, SDS averaged 40 million page views per month.

We need SEC freelancers with experience covering:
Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Missouri and potentially Alabama, Auburn, Florida and Georgia.

We need B1G freelancers with experience covering:
Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and potentially Ohio State.

We pay per story. Our freelancers essentially are columnists capable of writing analysis/opinion. Their backgrounds vary from very recent college graduates to retired newspaper reporters. Most of our freelancers have been with us for 5+ years, or since I took over as Executive Editor. Several others have parlayed freelancing jobs with us into FT jobs.

We shape writing roles based on ability/availability. We design it with the intent of limiting staff turnover and promoting from within when FT openings develop.

Ideally, you are in these markets and have experience covering that team. Specific sport (basketball, baseball or softball are growing needs) or league expertise is extremely helpful, too.

    Interested?

Email cwright@saturdaydownsouth.com a resume and links to 5-8 columns that demonstrate the ability to turn a thought into an 800-word column, or react to breaking news or a trend involving these teams. Be somebody we want to read. Writing ability trumps location, but, again, having SEC or B1G experience will give you a huge advantage in the process.
