The Saskatoon StarPhoenix seeks a talented, innovative, energetic sportswriter for a full-time position within our sports department.

We place a strong emphasis on writing ability and creativity within the beat structure. The position includes working a prominent local beat, along with general-assignment reporting and features.

The successful candidate will know how to cultivate sources, to ask the tough question when needed, to work with integrity, and to create compelling stories that serve our loyal readership.

The StarPhoenix, which is part of the Postmedia chain, places a strong emphasis on digital content. A willingness to embrace digital technologies is a must.

Saskatoon is going through a major boom, both economically and population-wise. With that growth comes a busy sports scene.

We’re looking for somebody who can join our department, which includes four reporters, and tell local stories through strong writing and reporting.

The StarPhoenix publishes six days a week and offers competitive salary and benefits. The position involves both evening and weekend work.

    Qualifications

Post-secondary journalism diploma, or equivalent writing and reporting experience
An ability to write clean, compelling and accurate copy under tight deadlines. Strong writing is a must.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision when required.
Willingness to work as part of a team and to take direction as needed.
Willingness to provide content on a variety of platforms.
    Valid drivers licence.

Qualified applicants can forward their resume, with covering letter outlining their experience and qualifications to:

Or without describing what the prominent local beat is.

If you're American, you don't have a chance to get this.

I believe it is their WHL beat, and I heard yesterday they have already shortlisted applicants. Could be wrong though on that second part, not the greatest source I go that from.

  7. Is this the opposite of those threads where some Canuck asks if there's any chance he'll get a job in Montana or some border state only to have everyone shoot down his hopes?

Must pronounce the word produce (as in vegetables) PROD-uce and not PRO-duce. Also must say LEFT-tenant instead of LIEU-tenant... :)

The Saskatoon StarPhoenix sounds (and looks) like the name of an intergalactic cruiser in some B sci-fi movie.
