What GM? Terry Ryan stepped down recently, didn't he.

Rosie, I'm so sorry about losing Santana. Glen Taylor, McHale, and Pohlad are the evil triple axis of Minnesota professional sports.

The Indians thank the Twins for making this stupid deal and getting Johan out of the AL in the process. The AL Central just got that much easier to win.

Don't forget, Carl Pohlad was #114 on Forbes' Richest Americans list last year. Forbes also reported that the Twins' revenues in 2005 were $112 million. The club is paying one-third of the costs for the new $500 million+ ballpark. They aren't exactly in the poorhouse.

  4. How can Willie Randolph screw this up?

Kevin McHale thinks this trade sucks.

Last season the Mets had a seven-game lead with 17 to play. Adding Santana just gives him another pitcher to overuse so Santana tires down the stretch.

In addition to my condolances to Zeke and Rosie, I feel bad for Santana, who will almost certainly be infected with the Mets terminal case of FAIL, and blow out an elbow.

So the Mets' rotation will look like this?

    Santana
    Maine
    Pedro
    Oliver Perez
    El Duque

New York is screwed in a series in which Santana or Maine doesn't pitch. Then, so help the Mets when teams beat up on Maine or Johan and Randolph is forced to use his great bullpen.

Perez was better than Maine last year and he wasn't awful in the playoffs in '06. It's also not inconceivable that they could get a decent start out of Martinez or Hernandez in the playoffs if they get there.

Santana guarantees nothing, but the Mets desperately needed an ace to push those other four into roles they are more likely to handle.

The truest words you spoke in your post were those that I bolded.
