    What did they say that was eye-popping, or could even expose themselves from a legal or PR standpoint? That they're shocked a teammate was a drug kingpin? I can't imagine why they'd ever say that. ::)

    Seriously, these guys just said what most of us would if one of our co-workers were busted for the same thing. Urlacher's comment actually seems genuine -- why would he be great, intimate friends with a recently signed free agent he'd never played with (and rarely against) before and who plays on the other side of the ball?

    To be fair, it sounds like Sam Hurd wouldn't exactly pop up on anyone's radar as someone who would be involved in something like this (as detailed in Jean-Jacques Taylor's story on ESPN Dallas). And no one is saying "I don't think he did this," just "it's pretty shocking that this happened."

    Agreed. Nothing any of those guys said even comes close to defending/excusing Hurd.
