The Eagles have no choice but to find someone else to pin their hopes on, at least for a while. They have six games left this year and will still be in the playoff race for at least two of those before going down in flames.

Next year McNabb won't be ready at the start of the year and may not be 100 percent for most or all of it. They also desperately need a power running game, but they've needed that for years and have continued to rely on Westbrook, Buckhalter, etc.

    Holy crap. That's creepy.

Also, major props to DyePack for effortlessly working in the phrase "going down in flames" into a Garcia-related post.

Bubby Brister's probably still available. Same with Ty Detmer. Or was that Koy?

  5. He's missed significant time two years if a row, but I don't think that's reason to look for a new QB. It just means they need a capable backup.

McNabb has been hurt three of the last five years, but all three times have been pretty serious injuries.

One could argue it's a string of bad luck.

It's not like he's refused to play over a nagging hamstring or toenail. Those type of recurring injuries could bring into question durability.

He's had three pretty different major type of injuries. If he plants differently, he avoids the torn ACL. Same with the broken leg.

Not saying that he is durable, but it could be argued that he's had a pretty bad string of bad luck.

The Iggles have been "blessed" enough to have employed both Detmers. Yeah, they need to start grooming a new QB for sure. Maybe McNabb comes back by the start of the season - Carson Palmer didn't get hurt until last January and was ready for the opener, so maybe there's hope for McNabb. But if Reid doesn't groom a young, competent backup he's a moron. Of course, he could have figured that out by now instead of continually drafting guys who don't play.

Paolantonio seems to have an incestuous sort of relationship with the Eagles. Is there any other team out there he reports on?

He used to be the Iggles beat guy for one of the Inquirer. He's based in Philly and he's been around that team for years, so he gets a lot of stories from that team. Sort of the same deal as Ed Werder and the Cowboys.

Tip for Andy Reid & the Eagles, bench Donovan McNabb the week of Nov. 14-19 every year.
His season ending injuries in 2002, 2005 and 2006 all occurred in that six day stretch.

Once again, I've seen little evidence that Donovan is the great savior when he IS healthy.
