I voted for Alex's friend dying on Family Ties. I still remember the dimmed-light flashback where Alex knows his friend's going to die, and hugs him, and begs him not to go. His friend just cracks some joke about how gay Alex is, then runs out the door. Alex falls to the ground, inconsolable.

Makes me choke up just remembering seeing it.

I'll never forget the looks on the faces of the cops at role call on Hill Street Blues when Furillo came in and told them that Esterhaus had died.

Michael Conrad was one of the great tough guy actors ever.

I always felt bad for Married with Children's Al Bundy, particularly when he got stuck in the department store before he got the chance to watch Hondo.

"Your life is meaningless compared to Hondo!!!" :D

My first memory of someone real dying on a show I watched was Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street. They had to try to explain that to kids.

Then it was "Coach" on Cheers. That sucked too.

And the old lady who was on the first episodes of "Night Court."

Indeed. Always thought Grace Gardner was one of the great TV MILFs.

Jurassic Bark makes me well up just thinking about it.

I always thought that the most dramatic moment was when Becky gets married on Roseanne.

Voted for Seymour Asses, but I think Henry's death was lot more shocking than sad. More like "holy shit, I didn't see THAT coming"

Other sad moments (SPOILER IF YOU DON'T WATCH THE SHOWS SO CAVEAT EMPEROR AND IT'S YOUR OWN FOOL FAULT):
    • Futurama: Fry thinks his brother Yancey stole his name and became the first person to land on Mars, but it turns out his Yancey named his first son after Fry.
    • The Wonder Years: Winnie and Kevin break up after Winnie switces schools; Kevin sees Winnie board another bus after a field trip to the museum, with God Only Knows playing.
    • NewsRadio: Bill McNeal dies.
    • Sesame Street: Big Bird learns about death when Mr. Hooper the janitor guy who ran the corner store thanks be to imjustapedophilegirl dies. It's not a sitcom, but it seems appropriate here.

    • Mr. Hooper was not the janitor. He ran the corner store.

No offense ... but that's just plain wrong.

I'm sure not ashamed that the Henry Blake death still gets me every time I see it.

Another moment which wasn't really all that sad, but it really hit me ... the final moments of the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

If you can't feel something when you watch a show, THAT'S a problem.
