Completely different thing. Not even in the sme ballpark. The photog misrepresented an event. An editor does no such thing.

And photographers are allowed to fix, doctor and completely rewrite poor photos. It's called Photoshop.

What you're not allowed to do, however, is change the integrity of the photo and what it represents. This is no different than the temptation every sports photographer since the beginning of time has had when shooting a game where they get a great shot but the ball/puck/whatever isn't in the photo. It's easy to go into Photoshop and add it to make it a better picture but if you do that, you're not documenting what took place, you're documenting what you WANTED to take place to make your representation of it better.

If you really want to compare it to what editors do, it'd be like a reporter filing a solid story that really covers what happened but, because you want to make it better, adding made up quotes that you're pretty sure someone would have said just to spice it up.

This is about as basic as it gets in our profession.

stupid, stupid, stupid...what was the guy worrying about. No need to play with the image anyway, much less, talking about the ethics of the situation. The fact that they found other work like this makes the firing easy to take.
