There is no Ryder Cup "paycheck."

Sorry Simon, we'll have to agree to disagree. They won the tournament, in convincing fashion, without him, and played better than they ever had with Woods on the team. I don't believe in coincidences.

And you throw this "2.2 points per Ryder Cup" stat out like it's some great number. I realize that in many of the matches he's also at the mercy of his partner, but I'd expect the best player in the world - which he is, when healthy - to do better than 2.2 of a possible 5.0 points over the course of his career.

    Hondo,

Don't the players receive a $200,000 "appearance" fee, which they have to donate to a charity? Maybe that's what C for C means by the "paycheck."

The win was great to watch.

Poulter was nails. Love his flair and his putting was dead on. Hats off also to Grame McDowell, where did he come from? He came up with huge shot after huge shot.

US won because of great performances from nearly everyone (Ben Curtis too!!). Tiger Woods was absent and a nonfactor. He'll be welcomed back with open arms next time around but he was surely not the reason they lost the last 5 of 6. If the others cower because of him, its their fault, not his. Its not like he was spouting off like Hunter Mahan and railing against the set up.

The above charity chart is what happens: the players are given $200,000 each to distribute to charties. Half of it can go to a player development program at the college of their choice. None of the money ever passes from the player's hands to the charity. They give the PGA of America the list, and the money goes out straight from the PGA.
