Good for him, I'm surprised the Phillies only went to $7 million in their offer.

They only went that low b/c of his service time. Hopefully they'll work out a long-term deal in the near future with him.

Phillies screwed up on their salary submission, simple as that.

No way Howard should even consider a deal that takes him past arbitration, certainly nothing like the crappy deal Pujols got. Howard should go year by year (going to arbitration, if necessary) then he should go out on the market and get himself a 10-year deal.

This reminds me a little of when Casey Close represented Derek Jeter in his '99 arbitration case with the Yankees.

I think it was Jayson Stark I heard on the radio yesterday talking about how talks between Howard and the team had not gone well and could get even uglier. Supposedly, he was pissed that they simply renewed his contract last year and he is unhappy about how his service time was set back whille waiting in the minors behind Jim Thome.

I just don't see him signing there long term unless the Phillies offer him above market value.

If this Horward dude is getting 10 mil, man, imagine what Ryan Howard is going to get.

Howard will be a DH in a matter of years though if the Phillies don't keep him around. They wasted him in the farm system with Thome at first. Not a wise move from the Philadelphia team.

I'm not. They're the Phillies. They could fuck up a one car funeral.

Why? They get the same amount of years out of him, and they're closer to his prime.
