Chris Mortensen should send his 2007 salary to Mike Silver for actually breaking the story and doing all the work. Ed Bouchette can't be happy no one in the Steelers organization leaked the information to him before a national guy got the info. And Mike Prisuta should be fired after writing the Steelers had offered Grimm the job and he had accepted.

Sports journalism at its finest this weekend.

Yeah, it sounds like this thread will become mulch.

Agreed. Prisuta and the Trib pressed the panic button on this one.

Is that a heads roll offense?

I doubt it, because whose head? The writer, or the editor who allowed it to run without confirmation?

    Or both?

It's possible, I suppose. Is the Trib a Guild shop?

A guild shop lets you fuck up?

Don't you have to do something pretty egregious, i.e. drink on the job, to get fired? Or at least have several screwups to your credit. I've never worked at a Guild shop, but I was under the impression it's like any other union job -- i.e. lengthy due process before termination.

As far as I know, the Trib is non-Guild.

Trib is non-Guild. I'm predicting no one gets reprimanded for this.
