It's only a fiasco because every fucking website in the world has an overwhelming need to break this big story and none of them care if they get it right.
This is not the Steelers' fiasco, it's a media fiasco and it speaks very poorly of our business.

Look back to Silver's original story on this. Quotes nobody and makes no pretense of using multiple sources.

yeah, sorry, i didn't mean to say i thought the steelers did anything poorly. rooney et al are probably just sitting there laughing at all the coverage. it's more of an embarrassment to the profession. not a huge black mark but it doesn't make the media look good when there's this absurd frenzy to get the story first and so many outlets are going with different things. i guess it's also yet another indictment on the ridiculousness of trying to be first with a story in the age of the neverending news cycle. i'm guessing that when you had 24 hours to confirm a story you were more careful with what you printed.

My thoughts exactly. In other news, guess Rivera won't get that second interview tomorrow since he's got other things to prepare for now.

I'm thinking the youngsters don't get the Foge Fazio joke and think it's serious.

    Completely agree.

The rush to "break" this story is just as ridiculous as the Iverson trade fiasco was last month.

    NOBODY. GIVES. A. FUCK.

As soon as it happens, everyone forgets who "breaks" it. Quit fucking around and get it right for a change. And as soon as it's right, that won't matter, either. This makes everybody look stupid.
