hmmm.... could we have a case where the thread gets locked before the event in question is even over?

Or worse yet, before they make the cut.

This thread might have to shoot low tomorrow just to make the cut.

Walk into any 19th hole in America a month from now and ask 100 golfers who won this year's Open. You'll get 75 percent of the people saying Lucas Glover, 20 percent saying whoever wins this weekend and 5 percent asking which open you're talking about.

Yep. I think I'll let your astute observation live on for a little while, if you don't mind.

Hey, wouldn't the thread title sound much less awkward, stilted and ridiculous if it was ``Running Open Championship thread?'' ``Running The Open thread'' sounds like a verb, like someone is operating The Open thread.

If you ask in Waterbury, they'll tell you it was this guy.

He got to go on the pro tour and everything after winning the Open there.

    Ain't that the bleepin truth.

And, for what it's worth, I've heard European players refer to the Augusta tournament as the "American Masters", because there's also a Masters on the European Tour.

I think that Snead, at the 1974 PGA, at 62, shot every round within 9 shots of his age. 69-71-71-68 and finished 3rd.

Certainly the greatest performance in a major by a non-winner.
