She’s also the world’s No. 1-ranked doubles player (just won a doubles match last night/this morning).

The woman who beat Kenin has a similar deal. Kanepi is 35 and has a well-known reputation for beating highly ranked opponents -- this was her eighth victory over a top 10 opponent in a major. She beat Wozniacki when she was No. 1 and took out No. 1 seed Simona Halep in the first round of the U.S. Open a few years ago. Kanepi has been ranked in the top 20, but her ranking fell I believe as a result of a couple of long layoffs due to injury/illness.

During the match last night, Darren Cahill, Halep's coach (and ESPN commentator), said when they're getting ready for a tournament, Halep always asks where Kanepi is in the draw, because she doesn't want to play her.

And The Wizard played another entertaining as hell match, overcame a 3-5 deficit in the third set and advanced to the Round of 16.

    She's awesome. And likeable.
Odd match. The opponent had "the yips" serving, as described by the Tennis Channel announcers.

Future of sports? No lines people Down Under. All electronic. Or a high school match where the opponent calls the lines.

    What else?

    No plate umpire?

Chips in footballs and get rid of chains?

That really was. In my limited tennis viewing I've never seen so many aborted tosses like that.

Kyrgios ... never a dull moment, Part 276.

Tournament known for some 104-degree days really catching a break with the weather. Not even a single day in the 90s forecast through the rest of the event.

Prediction: The winner of the Osaka-Muguruza match wins the tournament.

Woohoo! Bring on Osaka. Hsieh beat her in 2019 in Miami.

To me, Serena has looked a lot stronger so far in this tournament than she looked in any of the majors last year. We'll see how she holds up the rest of the way, but right now she's been very impressive.
