    Granted, I haven't read the entire 160-something page opinion, but from the excerpts I've heard and the way I'm understanding the case and the ruling that's not at all what it said.
    This ruling found that New York (and the seven or eight other states with similar laws) had enacted laws saying the state had to grant permission before its citizens could exercise a constitutional right. Not only was it a bad law, the way it was enforced violated constitutional rights. New York was requiring citizens to prove a need for a gun permit, and then denying the overwhelming majority of them on often questionable and arbitrary grounds no matter how much proof was provided. It was a system wholly designed to violate the second amendment.
    The law was blatantly unconstitutional, and frankly it should have been a 9-0 vote. If it were dealing with any other part of the Bill of Rights it probably would have been.
