    Jeez, you'd think they'd be able to fly at least somewhere half-close and still save a bundle, vis a vis the mileage/gas.

    spnited, at my last paper i was getting 17 cents a mile the first 2 years i was there.

    I'm getting 25 cents per mile at my stop now. I got 30 cents at my last.

    You would think a local paper might be able to "sell" sponsorship to its NCAA coverage like the folks in TV and radio do. Get a travel agency to hook them up with a car dealer or two chipping in.
    And don't get started on the "ethics" of it. Newspapers don't have that luxury anymore. They've already sold off the front page and section fronts and shown the industry is more interested in dollars than journalism. They've already made their choice.
