Yikes. There's a reminder of something I'd much rather forget.

(Here's a good place to put the "I'm from North Carolina ... and I don't support Jesse Helms" bumper sticker from back in the day.)

The average homicide rate in the United States was 5.3 murders per 100,000 people in 2016.
In St Louis the rate was 63 per 100K.
In Baltimore the rate was 55 per 100K.

police abuse is a topic well worth covering. And the trial in Minneapolis is worth live TV coverage and hundreds of hours a day of analysis.

But why is the larger subject only worth 2 paragraphs on the 4th the page of the local news section?

One of the officers has been fired, unknown on the other.

For what it's worth, the town voted R roughly 6-1 in last November's election.

Because white America doesn't care about it, mostly.

When Does Murder Make The News? It Depends On The Victim’s Race.

And you think White America cares that a cop unjustly killed a black guy? Non Christian-Extremist White America care because Black Americans have demonstrated literally and analytically that cops are unjustly killing and injuring scores of black males every year. That matters. There have been countless marches and protests over the way police treat minorities, especially black men. State and local
Legislators in many states have taken notice and are acting to curb police abuses. And this is a constant story in the news, on line, tv. 6557 people were killed by police between. 2015-2019. this figures includes totally justified killings and criminal actions. 23% of them black males who only comprise 7% of the population. In the same time frame approximately 81,000 people were criminally killed. Not including drug overdoses, Motor vehicle manslaughter and accidental killings.
black males are overwhelmingly disproportionate murder victims. It’s rough but fairly accurate to say that for every 1 black male killed by police every year, dozens are murdered by other civilians

when was the last time a demonstration closed portions of a city to protest a civilian murder? How many simultaneous demonstrations occurred in multiple cities to protest civilians murdered by civilians.

white America cares about police abuses because they have been taught that it’s not only prevalent and horribly wrong, but because non White Americans care. Some whites are guilted into caring, others are educated into.
Where’s the outpouring of desperation over the disproportionate minority victims of violent crime?

I think if “no coloreds after dark” was on the ticket, there are places it would pass... easily.
