You ban athletes when the problem starts at the bottom. This problem starts at the top, an aggressive state-sanctioned effort to cheat. Banning the whole country is the right thing to do, even if it fucks over a few people trying to do it the right way. The anger should be with their government, not the decision makers on this.

I want all the Russians banned due to systemic cheating by their Olympic Committee.

Don't worry, Fatfuck will be on the tweet machine soon threatening to forbid the US from going if the brutal cruel unfair treatment of sweet Russia continues.

If you banned every country whose Olympic Committee was cheating, there would be no one left.

That depends. Is ACCEPTING bribes cheating?

The ESPN article on the breaking thing buried a very interesting detail. The surfing competition for Paris 2024 will be held in Tahiti. 9000 miles from France, but 15 minutes from Reno. Inland cities have staged their sailing competitions hundreds of miles away (Montreal's was in Kingston, Ontario, I think, whereas Munich had to go to Kiel and Moscow was out in the Baltic Sea somewhere), but something like this hasn't been done since all the equestrian events in 1956 took place in Stockholm because Australian quarantine laws made it impossible to bring horses into Melbourne.

Also read today that the 50K race walk is being axed after Tokyo, mostly because it's only a men's event. Too late for that French guy who shat himself on the course while leading in Rio.

Silly as it may seem, the breaking thing isn't that far out of left field. They've staged it at the Youth Olympics, none of the participants are likely to fail a test for PEDs, the kids are rumored to like it and it'll cost next to no money to put on. Compared to modern pentathlon and synchronized swimming, it's probably worth everyone's while.
