In all the not inconsiderable years I've been watching college football, both the actual games and the surrounding soap opera, I have never seen this much undisguised glee from so many journalists, talking heads, third-party (not even necessarily rival) fans, other coaches, etc. when somebody flames out like this.

When Ole Miss started landing five stars, everyone knew what was going on. Freeze wasn't shown the door for cheating, or cheating on his wife. He was shown the door for not winning enough. If Ole Miss were in the final Four last year, the phone would have "belonged" to a recruiting assistant.

 

Not winning enough? Last year was his first bad year.

The fact he beat Saban twice and went to back-to-back New Year's Six bowls is the only reason he was still coach before yesterday.
