I think the differences were that (A) Mays isn't in failing health, that we know of. Williams was dying. (B) Not to criticize San Francisco and Giants fans, but Mays never played at SBC Park. Williams starred in Fenway; generations upon generations of Red Sox fans grew up worshipping him.

Was that JDV in the kayak next to Byrnes in the Cove?

Those were the best tickets he could score.

Brynes did say he is going to muscle up to get a ball. That HAD to be JDV. Provably, demonstrably so.

And if it doesn't land in McCovey Cove, they'll keep grooving them. We MUST have a ball in the water, dammit.

But even just the way the players reacted tonight. In '99 they all gathered around Williams like he was baseball royalty, whereas tonight they seemed relatively indifferent.

Williams was certainly not in great health, but I wouldn't say he was dying, he didn't pass for three more years.

I am thinking that is not that far from the truth. They are going to do it until the ball lands in the water. Someone will put it there in this game.

Eric Byrnes... seem a bit desperate for an analysts gig when his playing days are done?

Who is going to be honored next year at Yankee Stadium, considering it's the last year of its existence?
