This Mays thing doesn't feel forced. Not at all.

Sorry, I'm so cynical about what MLB does to clog up things like the All-Star game and World Series, which don't need a damn thing. Do the lineups and play the game. Period.

And one of the greatest ones at that. Very appropriate.

Trying to replicate the 1999 pregame at Fenway with Teddy Ballgame. Good effort, but as someone else said earlier, START THE FREAKIN' GAME.

Mays tried to throw it over the backstop. Didn't work out too well.

There are a lot of things major league baseball does poorly. But these situations aren't in that group.

Not sure what it exactly was missing, but that could have been better. Just didn't have that same grand feeling of Williams in 1999.

It was original then. I still dug it.

Haren is going to groove one to Bonds. If not him, somebody will.

Exactly. The Williams thing was mystical, with him being a recluse in Florida. Mays hasn't vanished, though he has slowed down.

What was wrong with honoring Willie Mays before the game?

There's a lot of dumb extracurriculars which could be done away with, but I don't see anything wrong with honoring former players like they just did with May.
