    From a Sunday NYT story:

"In her last 99 holes at major championships, Wie is 34 over par. Comprising her last five major championship finishes are four missed cuts and a tie for 84th."

Barack Obama is putting too much pressure on Michelle Wie.

    Oh wait, wrong thread. ...

It's laughable that you would continue to bring up her major championship record in the face of what she's done lately.

And STILL, get back to us when she drops down to something like 30% top-ten finishes in majors entered.

Or better yet, pass judgment after she gets through actually being a student at one of the nation's top universities.

No, maybe Nike and everyone else should have gotten back to us after she actually had, you know, accomplished something......

And you are missing the point completely -- her top ten finishes are nice -- her ZERO wins are nowhere near in line with all of the ridiculous hype and wealth that has been bestowed upon her for no other reason other than she is young and halfway attractive and the LPGA is so desperate for attention they jumped on board with it all.....

I agree completely, but I wouldn't blame her for taking what was offered. If you're so angry about it, why not address it with Phil Knight instead?

    Then attack Nike.

Start a thread entitled "Running Nike jumping the gun endorsement thread"

This is so fucking typical of the pile-on mentality of this place.

"WE said you were going to be so great. WE publicized your 300-yard drives as a 13-year-old and proclaimed you to be the next great thing. And you you are not performing like WE thought you would! What's wrong with you??????"

She took money from companies begging to give it to her before she had accomplished anything.

    Big deal.

Everyone on this board would have done the exact same thing.

If Wie gets her name on a police blotter or flunks out of school or throws a club and hits somebody with it, fine. Rip her all you want.

But this "Running Michelle Wie isn't as good as WE said she was going to be" crap is getting old.

I agree, most if not all would have taken the barrels of money thrown at her five years ago.

But not many would have chosen the bizarre career path that the Wie Family has chosen - appearing to do everything in their power to avoid actually playing golf against her competition... the Men's Tour, going to college - it's bizarre - and certainly worth a thread on a sports board, IMO.

Yes, going to college is bizarre. Playing in tournaments that you're invited to play in, crazy.

Her path is the same used by Venus and Serena Williams.

On magazine covers at age 12 . . . playing exhibitions at that age against the pros . . . avoiding juniors competition . . . even boasting about playing against the men (Venus played a non-sanctioned match against one).

And, of course, their dad was roundly criticized for it all.

    At first.
