Jacob Hester was a two-star, and LSU lost the "No. 1 class" status by signing him in 2004. They would not have won the BCS in 2007 without him.

In the CBS Sports story, Tom Lemming is quoted about ESPN crossing the line. Tom Lemming talking about recruiting ethics is a joke. He has been accused of directing kids to ND and uses the Army-Navy game as a recruiting tool for the Irish.

I just fucking hate this day... the dog-and-pony shows, the nonsense, the enabling parents and administrators... Just fucking hate it...
    It's a spnited-listening-to-others-talk-about-their-fantasy-teams kind of hate

I miss many, many, many things about my newspaper career.
Signing Day is not one of them.
Recruiting coverage is not one of them.

They just showed a pick-the-hat press conference around here on TV and then had clips from two other local schools that had press conferences.

Commits. Soft commits. Leans. De-leans. Lean Cuisines.
    Ugh.

Pretty quiet signing day on my new job.

I fucking hate it.. have I said that?

This is what I hate and this is why I wrote a piece in the paper today hating it, knowing this specific place was going to be a dog and ponyt show -- with FOUR signees...
As out lead prep guy said today, "A kid asked why we weren't going to cover him today. I told him 'because you did it right. You declared already. We have to cover these clowns who have to draw attention..."
Hope this fucker breaks a leg and never plays...

I love how he can even open the bag himself. He has his mon or aunt or whoever do it for him. And the way he says it should have gotten him slapped.

Seems Auburn and Tennessee didn't exactly clean up today. I do find it interesting to check out teams that have undergone coaching changes. Washington had one of their worst years ever, which I found surprising. New coach, you figure you'll get four years out of him. Good facilities..etc.

Considering the circumstances, I think both those schools did pretty well. They're both still in on some big-time prospects, too (you know, the douchebags who don't sign on the first day because two fucking years of non-stop attention wasn't enough?).

On the other hand, every SEC class not in the top 10 these days seems like a step back. The league loaded up again.

And it's not hard to see the schematic change coming to Starkville. What did the Bullies get, 9-10 receivers?

  10. The kid flipping the coin to decide between West Virginia and Rutgers was absurd. I'd love to see a story about how much money the losing scool (WV) spent recruting him. What a waste of time and money.

Imagine it won't endear him mutch to Rutgers either.

  12. Mizzou, etc.: I said "There are always going to be exceptions." And yet, I knew that people were still going to pull out random examples of kids who didn't become NFL Hall of Famers.

Oh, and as far as Tennessee and Auburn, teams with new coaches usually do fairly poorly in recruiting, just because they have a short window to close the deal. Most staffs have been working on these kids for two years, not six weeks.
